In 1943, at the tender age of 11, Taylor made us fall in love with her in the screen debut of National Velvet. This sweet-faced child had us in the palm of her hand.
Her teenage years saw her more carefree and feminine with off the shoulder and lace detailing in delicate fabrics. It never mattered what she wore, when she walked into a room, she lit it up!
As the world watched her grow into a lovely young lady, she embraced Dior's "The New Look" with ease and sophistication. She made the long skirts look effortless.
In 1950, Taylor married Conrad "Nicky" Hilton. Yes, that would be the grandfather of Paris & Nicky. Lovely in lace, her gown was elegantly draped to fit her figure.
In the 50's square necklines and halters showed off her curvy figure gracefully.
End of the 50's, Taylor loved her bra-tops and high-waisted shorts and dared to be different. (Photo from the set of
The 60s were a sexy time for Taylor and with Cleopatra came ample cleavage.
The 70's saw Taylor strut her stuff in short mini-skirts.
And who could forget her elaborate headpieces. This trendsetter was setting the bar for what was hot.
As Taylor grew older, her style became bolder! The 80's were an interesting time in fashion period, but Elizabeth always found herself making bold fashion statements- whether it was feathers, boas, or big shoulders.
In 1997, the CFDA honored her with the Lifetime Achievement Award for Glamour. In true, Taylor style, she opted for a white silk caftan which was classic and chic. Taylor knew how to dress with finesse.
Even a wheelchair, couldn't keep this diva down on her fashion choices. Taylor was known for her diamonds and furs, she was the Queen of Luxury.
Today, we say goodbye to an actress, a mother, a daughter, a grandmother, philanthropist, designer, but we also say goodbye to a Style Legend. Her beauty and extraordinary style will be forever missed. She defines 'Glamazon' for me.
