WILLIAM RAST STRUTS INTO TARGET

Target‘s latest collaboration is out. The tomboyish denim line William Rast created men’s and women’s looks for the retailer, and to be honest? Yawn. Except we can’t help checking it out simply because Justin Timberlake helped launch William Rast, and since that man has a knack for making anything sexy ...
On the other hand, the looks seem classic and basic, which is something you can always use, right? What do you think of the vibe?

7 SEXY STAPLES FOR FALL 2010

Hey guys, with the fall weather nippin' at your heels, here are a few key pieces to keep in mind to always come out in style!

Seven is a lucky # and these pieces should be fortunate enough to be in your wardrobe for Fall/Winter 2010.
Guys, fall is fast approaching and it is time to update your wardrobe and put away the bright 1980’s inspired fashions that exploded during the spring and summer.

In general, men’s clothing does not offer that many options. And not all guys have the same style. So these tips and trends can go straight across the board regardless if you’re the surfer, the skater, the all black apparel or the jeans and free T-shirt kind of dresser. These trends will instantly update your wardrobe, without breaking the bank too much.

The Jacket or Coat

Everyone needs one and fall is the perfect time to get one, especially to get through the cold windy days that the valley has ahead of us. Men’s fall style pays homage to the earlier fashions of the 1930s and 1940s. There is no surprise to this trend, but the way it has evolved is infusing a military expression into these jackets.

Pick a hue in a neutral military-inspired tone. We are talking Army green, a deep hocolate brown or navy. The jacket can either be single or double-breasted.

A single-breasted jacket has two or three buttons and a notched lapel. A double-breasted jacket has a wide overlap and two parallel columns of buttons. Brass or antiqued silver buttons are a must this season.

Those two factors alter the fit of the jacket, so find your fit and what works best with your sense of style.

Ideally, most men’s coats and jackets will either hit you around the rear or below. So pick it right, fellas. Remember this is an investment piece that should last you years.

Understanding that not everyone has the money to drop on this trend, going to a thrift store and buying a previously loved coat can also go a long way. If the buttons don’t follow the brass feel you can always buy similar ones at a craft store and sew them on the jacket or coat yourself.

The Watch

You probably rely on your phone to tell you the time, but this fall the watch speaks volumes on the kind of guy you are.

Not relying on your phone to tell you the time like you did in high school, screams responsible adult. Plus, what if your phone battery dies? The best advice is to rock the watch.

A watch is like a piece of iconography. The kind of watch you wear tells people the kind of person you are, believe it or not.

Guys, put away the bling. You don’t need a diamond-encrusted face that you can see from space weighing down your wrist. This fall it is all about classic simplicity. Look for a simple, yet large face. It can be round or square, and analog or digital, but for the great 1930’s look that goes with whatever look you rock, analogue remains to be king and ironically, timeless.

The Cardigan

The grandpa cardigan is still around, but fall has updated its look and its value. It is all about the details, like what kind of buttons it features, the spacing between, the neckline and where it hits you on your body among other things.

These details are where you can make it your own. It can feature elbow patches, a different colored trim, a hood, a zipper or the growing trend of a mock neck collar. Anything works here, so make it your own and fit it to your liking.

The Henley

It isn’t a new trend, but the Henley is the fall version of a plain tee. Guys, please give your V-necks a vacation. You can still wear them, but they are not the staple for this season.

The Henley is the ultimate layering piece for guys because this classic item can carry you into the winter by simply wearing it with a v-neck sweater or a great coat and jeans. Simple, yet put together without really trying is what the Henley is all about.

The Plaid Shirt
This also isn’t a new trend at all, but all that really needs to be noted is the color you pick and the form of plaid that you sport. Checkered plaid out, classic plaid in. This means throw out the bright colored versions of lumberjack (the red version is still acceptable to wear in moderation, but other than that the yellow and neon greens need to go).

Stripes

They can be seen everywhere in stores. The trend comes reasonably priced, but the choosing of which to wear is the tricky part.

Thick or thin, either line works. Just like the ladies, be wary because stripes do have the tendency to make you appear wider or heavier than you really are. The key will lay in the colors, cut and fit of the item.

The Scarf

This isn’t something new, nor is it rocket science. When it gets cold everyone should wear one, but the trick for this fall is how you wear it and the one’s that you choose to wear.

Once again, neutral military hues are best. Grandma knitted ones are acceptable, but the woven ones with details work best.

The one thing you should change is the way you tie or knot your scarf, because it can alter your entire look. You’d be surprised at how many knots can be tied to wear a scarf and how much they can change to look of the outfit. Google it or YouTube it. They can not only change your look, but also your life.

There you have it, gentlemen. These were only a few ways to, ironically, update your closet to the 1930s inspired fall style of 2010, in the simplest ways possible without doing too much damage to your wallet.

MANGO AT PENNEYS!

JCPenney is hopping on the European fast-fashion autostrada by teaming up with Mango to put MNG by Mango shops in select Penney stores and online starting this past Wednesday.

Based in Barcelona, Spain, Mango has more than 1,300 stores in 94 countries but only 12 in the United States, including locations at Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade and Costa Mesa's South Coast Plaza. The new deal extends that reach to 77 JCPenney stores, with plans to expand to 600 in the next year. Initially, 13 Penneys in the Los Angeles area — including Glendale Galleria, Fox Hills Mall in Culver City and Del Amo in Torrance — will have MNG by Mango shops. For Penney it's the latest move toward upping its fashion cred, after deals with Sephora, Charlotte Ronson and Liz Claiborne.

Since 2007, Mango has been raising its profile internationally by sprinkling celebrity stardust — first with a design collaboration with Academy Award-winner Penélope Cruz and her sister Monica for a dressed-up collection that featured little black dresses and hats. Scarlett Johansson has been the face of the brand in ad campaigns since last fall. Mango has also collaborated with Americans Adam Lippes and Moises de la Renta, son of Oscar, who designed a T-shirt collection that came out this year.

Like its counterparts H&M and Zara, Mango opts for multiple-season delivery rather than the traditional fall-winter, spring-summer and holiday cycles. MNG by Mango is a lower-priced division of Mango, with a slightly different design output. JCPenney is eagerly following the fast-fashion route with plans to refresh the MNG by Mango selection twice every month.

JCPenney spokeswoman Kate Coultas says one shouldn't confuse fast fashion with fast food. "Fast fashion is not disposable fashion. It is definitely high-quality stylish items with great prices — the latest runway trends," she says. "And fast-fashion contemporary is the fastest growing business right now. What better partner than Mango, an established fast-fashion retailer. We also had great success with our Sephora shop-within-a-shop, and MNG by Mango will be across from Sephora. We want to bring in a customer that hasn't been in JCPenney in awhile or a younger customer."

GUY BREAKING NEWS: PERSOL IS BRINGING 60's STYLE BACK!

Persol is re-channeling their biker-chic side. In October, they release the Steve McQueen collection, an exclusive line of limited edition sunglasses inspired by the iconic 20th century motorist. With a charismatic personality, McQueen was known as much for his cool disposition as for his unique style that included padded motorcycle sweatshirts, a Belstaff jacket, and riveting sunglasses. Persol’s foldaway sunglasses were made famous by the countless pictures taken of Steve in the 60s, as well as his appearance in the original Thomas Crown Affair. This particular style was a trademark pair for him. Exclusively at Sunglass Hut stores nationwide, this updated classic will come in a variety of new color combinations, including this tortoise frame with blue lenses.

FIRST VIEW: GILT & TARGET TEAM UP TOMORROW

Gilt Groupe has partnered with Target to offer a first for both: an exclusive preview sale of items from upcoming designer collections by Tucker, Mulberry and John Derian.
A Mulberry for Target mini crossbody bag in quilted denim ($14.99).

John Derian for Target's Dahlia tray ($14.99).

The (online) frenzy starts tomorrow at 9 a.m. (noon EST) at Gilt Groupe. New members can join by going to www.gilt.com/target. As experienced Gilt flash shoppers know, woe and sorrow awaits those who don't get there at 9. The Target Designer Sale items will be limited quantities and non-returnable. As experienced Target Designer Collection shoppers know, whether you're purchasing through the Target website or showing up at 8 a.m., there are always items that, mysteriously, are never available in either place.

The Tucker (women's clothing) and John Derian (home decor) collections are due in stores in September, while handbag brand Mulberry's collection ( feature eight styles in patent, velvet and denim) comes out in October. Derian's decoupage-inspired trays, plates and other Victoriana knickknacks in particular are known to sell out quickly, and permanently.

This year's Target Designer collections have included Zac Posen and Liberty of London; past collections have come from buzzy labels such as Botkier, Rodarte and Alexander McQueen.

STYLE WATCH: PLAYING FOR KEEPS

Although the temperature outside says it's still very much Summer, believe it or not, Fall is nipping at your cute heels. And I am sure you are thinking, "I just spent all this money on a new Summer wardrobe, now I have to save for some new Fall threads"? Fear not, there are several trends that will transition into the cool autumn nights. Not sure what to wear when the weather gets a bit chilly? Incorporate some of our Summer favs to keep your Fall wardrobe on-trend while saving on your Must Have splurge items.

1. MAD ABOUT PLAID. Plaid isn't going anywhere. The same plaids that you wore with your jean cut-offs this summer can be worn with a pair of dark denim skinny jeans this fall and winter. Add a fun solid scarf to add a twist to your favorite button up shirt! (Jessica Alba and Jess Simpson are glad this trend is stickin' around!)

2. LATE BLOOMER. Maybe you haven't quite got onboard the Floral train, well now is your chance! Hop on board this trend because even into October it's still gonna be in full bloom. The Spring sensational floral dresses can be paired with a blazer and some booties to get a Fall makeover. (Jessica Biel is a huge fan of the floral trend, so we expect to see her showing off her stems this autumn!)

3. FRINGE BENEFITS. Yes, there are a few benefits to this trend. The G.I. Jane meets Bohemian beauty of the fringe handbag in camel and neutral colors are still gonna be huge this fall. The studded details are slowly disappearing in clothing, but are sticking around in accessories because of the military appeal. (Vanessa Hudgens will be excited to hear this news, she always looks so posh with her over-sized fringe bag.)

4. WALKING IN HIS SHOES. Like the old saying, "walk a day in his shoes", Hollywood starlets like Kate Moss and Nicole Richie are taking an item inspired by their own boyfriend's closets. The laced up pennyloafer is gonna be the flat of choice this fall. Great paired with opaque tights for a modern remix on the saddle shoe!

5. SKY HIGH. Over the knee boots are not going anywhere. Step into this trend and get a pair of fabulous thigh-hi boots to wear over skinny jeans or give your LBD a lil makeover- think Angelina Jolie in Salt meets Fergie! This trend's popularity last fall was seen all over again on the runways from Milan to Paris!

6. RED RED WINE. Deep crimson and oxblood rule the scene this holiday season. Indulge in the cranberry trend to balance off the grey and the chocolate browns that now complete the basic palette. Add a splash of this divine color in accessories to be RED hot! (Sienna Miller is scorching in red!)

7. MAKING WAVES. Feminine details transition into your fall wardrobe. Have fun being girlie, after all, it's what makes men love us the most. Dress to flatter your body shape. Don't go crazy head to toe ruffles, but adorn your body to stay well proportioned. Fans of this ruffle trend are Emmy Rossum and Olivia Palermo.

8. GIDDY-UP. These saddlebags do not need hours in the gym, instead they need hours of shopping on Rodeo in style! The 80's handbag that was oh-so-popular back in the day are stickin' around another season, so embrace this trend with true classic style. (Katie Holmes and Kiera Knightley love this handbag trend!)
